During my recent trip to Atlanta, Georgia, for recruiting at the Georgia Institute of Technology (my alma mater), I stayed at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Atlanta.
We arrived pretty late in Atlanta and decided to get dinner at the Sweet Georgia Juke Joint downtown. There was live music playing, and the atmosphere was a bit dark. This particular ensemble was missing a saxophonist.
I was trying to stay healthy, so I ordered a salad with salmon. It was tastefully prepared.

On our first recruiting day at Georgia Tech, I was surprised by how much Georgia Tech has expanded. There were a lot of new buildings and facilities. A bus ran around the campus (I used to bike everywhere before).
The Campus Recreational Center did not exist when I attended Georgia Tech from 1990 to 1991. I didn't expect it to be so fancy.
The workout gym was elaborate - like my Courtside Club in Los Gatos.
The pool was also enormous - much longer than the one that was there before. This is the 50m pool where the 1996 Olympic Games were held.
The career fair went well, and I enjoyed meeting all the students there. After the career fair ended, we headed downtown.
As we went to S, we decided to have dinner - at a well-regarded restaurant downtown.
We had some exciting entrees there.

The next day, I explored the Georgia Tech campus and saw the new buildings.
The new buildings are very modern looking.
The Undergraduate Learning Commons building pictured below did not exist when I attended Georgia Tech.
I was surprised to see a Starbucks inside.
I went inside the Student Rec Center and saw a bowling alley inside.
The house where I lived as a poor graduate student was still off-campus.
After this brief tour, we drove to downtown Atlanta to see the CNN Center.
CNN was an exciting place, and we got to see the studios where news is created and broadcast to the U.S. and other countries.
I was surprised at the openness of the vast CNN floor.
