A Grand Day Out in Sonoma

Since our 16th engagement anniversary was on May 5, we decided to revisit where I first proposed to Inna - at the Benziger Winery, atop the hill that overlooks the winery.

We enjoyed strolling around Benziger Winery's gardens, looking at the beautiful flowers.

We saw a few frogs lurking about in the nearby lily pond, ribbiting. Inna took lots of fantastic, close-up photos of frogs and flowers.

Inna liked all the Biodynamic grape growing and processing steps that Benziger takes. We did not do wine tasting (as we had never liked it before, other than our trusty Muscat).

We enjoyed relaxing in the cool spring air. It was enjoyable to spend time here.

After some time, we decided to get lunch and try the well-regarded Yeti Restaurant in Glen Ellen. I decided to try the highly recommended "Rack of Lamb Tandoori."

While the portion was small, the lamb was well-prepared and delicious! I shared it with Inna, who tried "Tandoori Chicken" with an extra rice dish. The Tandoori chicken was also excellent.

The freshly baked "Garlic Cilantro Naan" was also delicious!

After lunch, we decided to go to the Jack London State Historic Park for some hiking and exploring.

Since the park is extensive and we did not have much time (it closes at 5:00pm), we decided to head to the famous "Wolf House." The "Wolf House" was Jack London's intended final residence, with 25 rooms, a pool, and multiple fireplaces.

Unfortunately, the house burned down a month before Jack and Charmian moved in. Now, only charred remnants remain, supported by steel girders.

Despite being designed as "fireproof" (by using redwood and stone), the house did not resist fire very well.

After our short hike to the Wolf House, we returned to Sonoma for a quick coffee and dessert at the well-regarded Basque Boulangerie Cafe. We ordered the "Beehive" cake and it was delicious!

We had a grand day out in Sonoma and enjoyed our time there. Next time, we need to get to the Jack London State Park earlier to do more of the many other trails there.
