Coronovirus Chonicles

On Friday, March 6, I started to feel flu symptoms, with an intense headache persisting through Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, Mach 8. I had trouble sleeping and a persistent dry cough. I decided to work from home to avoid infecting anyone at work. I had the usual flu symptoms, which decreased after about a week of home rest (I also had a runny nose).

On Monday, March 15, of the following week, when I was already planning to return to work, I saw an email from Rami (Juniper's CEO) mandating a work-from-home policy due to the widespread fear of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Santa Clara County.

In addition to most companies closing (including Facebook and Google), my Sunnyvale Tennis CenterCity Sports Gym, most beaches, and State parks were also closing.

The Johns Hopkins Coronavirus map showed exponential growth in Coronavirus Cases in the United States.

I noticed that many stores, like Whole Foods, ran out of basic staples such as rice and eggs. Chicken and beef were being rationed - only 5 lbs of meat was allowed to be purchased per person! Wow! I have never seen this kind of giving in the United States! Toilet paper and paper towels were utterly absent from our nearby Almaden Costco.

We decided to stay indoors and exercise by walking around our neighborhood. Although Alex wanted to resume surfing, we thought it would be safe for him and us if he followed Santa Clara County recommendations. He spent most of his time preparing for the ACT, completing his Bellarmine high school homework, and riding his carve board (skateboard).

We looked forward to relaxing at the Four Seasons in Punta Mita, Mexico (near Puerta Vallarta) in April, but we had to cancel and reschedule for the following year.

With all of my sports activities suspended, the year 2020 is not looking favorable for my tennis, mountain biking, dirt biking, windsurfing, or surfing. I hope this virus epidemic passes by soon so our lives can return to normal.
