Oahu, Hawaii

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

On Wednesday, July 1, we flew from San Jose to the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu. After renting our car, we drove to the Hilton Hawaiian Village and checked in. Inna made reservations for 6 nights (from July 1 - July 7).

After dropping off our luggage, we explored the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the nearby beach.

Hilton had some live penguins on display. I was surprised to see penguins this far north!

The Hilton property is gorgeous, with lovely ponds and Hawaiian statues.

We even found some colorful parrots.

Alex was eager to try the various slides, and he was quickly in the water.

After enjoying the slides, we stopped by for some delicious ice cream.

The sunsets on Oahu are so amazing. Each one is better than the previous one.

In the morning, we ate breakfast at the Tropics Restaurant in the Hilton. I ordered a "Loco Moco" - a contemporary Hawaiian white rice dish topped with a hamburger, fried egg, and brown gravy.

Inna chose the "Rock Shrimp Flat Bread" and liked it a lot.

After breakfast, we returned to the pool and the slides.

Inna, Alex, and I swam around the saltwater Kahanamoku Lagoon in front of Hilton Village.

Alex really enjoyed floating around the lagoon on his inflatable pool mattress.

In the evening, Hilton's Luau started with traditional food, dancers, and Hawaiian music.

We didn't make Luau reservations and were not hungry enough to join in.
