For our 25th Anniversary dinner, I had initially booked Evvia, but had to cancel because Inna was feeling unwell. When I tried to book another day, I could only reserve outdoor tables, which worried me due to the cold weather. I decided to try dining at Le Papillon—a restaurant I visited decades ago. I made a dinner reservation for Saturday, October 24, at 19:00.
On arrival (a short 15-minute drive from home), we were quickly seated and given menus. We decided to skip the cocktails and wine and order from the prix fixe dining menu. Inna selected 4 courses (appetizer, soup, main, and dessert), while I selected the 3-course menu.
We ordered the following items:
- Appetizers:
- Inna: Dungeness Crab Soufflé with lemon, Saffron, and Caviar
- Boris: Dungeness Crab Soufflé with lemon, Saffron, and Caviar
- Soup/Salad:
- Inna: Butternut Squash Soup
- Boris: Heirloom Tomatoes with Jersey Ricotta, Polenta Croutons, and Olive Caramel
- Main:
- Inna: Roasted Chilean Sea Bass with Chive Beurre Blanc, Pickled Shimeji Mushrooms, and Potato Mille-Feuille
- Boris: Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Marrow Emulsion, Matsutake Mushroom, and Potato Gratin
- Dessert:
- Soufflé Grand Marnier with Fresh Berries and Grand Marnier Cream
The dinner was excellent, with excellent service (though slower than at Plumed Horse). My favorite was the Dungeness Crab Soufflé. The Grilled Beef Tenderloin was good, but I felt that something was missing (perhaps salt)?
The Soufflé Grand Marnier with Fresh Berries was also delicious!
