Alex's Graduation from Dartmouth Middle School

How time flies! Only yesterday, Alex entered Dartmouth Middle School as a 6th grader (from Guadalupe Elementary). Three short years later, he is graduating with honors from Dartmouth Middle School and heading to high school (Go Bells!)

The Dartmouth Middle School Graduation followed the following Program:
  1. Processional to "Pomp & Circumstance"
  2. Flag Salute
  3. "Star-Spangled Banner" by the Chorus
  4. Greetings and Introduction by Mr. Randy Martino (Principal)
  5. Greetings from Board by Mrs. Janice Hector
  6. Reflections on the Class of 2017 by Marisa Panella (class president)
  7. "Rhapsody in Black," composed and performed by Lena Pang
  8. Awards
  9. Recession to "March from Aida"
The graduation was held in the center of the schoolyard outside. I was worried that it would be held in the gym, where space is minimal. There was a slight chance of rain, but it did not materialize.

After the processional, where all the students walked in alphabetical order to the music of "Pomp & Circumstance," we saluted the flag and then remained standing for the singing of the "Star-Spangled Banner" (sung by the Dartmouth Choir).

Mr. Randy Martino, the Dartmouth Middle School Principal, gave a short speech about the accomplishments of 2017 graduates. He was very proud of this graduating class.

Mrs. Janice Hector, the Union School Board member, gave a speech about her days as a student. She focused on the future and talked about how this student body will be the first to experience self-driving cars, walk on the moon, and maybe even Mars. She was trying to inspire the Class of 2017 to dare the impossible.

The student body president - Marissa Panella - gave a speech to the Class of 2017. She talked about her time at Dartmouth and wished everyone success in high school. I recorded the speech below:

Lena Pang composed a new piece, "Rhapsody in Black," and performed it for the students here:

Afterward, all of the Honor Students - 37 out of 300 - with a 4.0 GPA for all three years were congratulated. Alex stood up (though his last name was mispronounced). All of the honorees wore yellow scarves over their red gowns.

Here is Alex in his red graduation gown.

All the names were called in ascending alphabetical order, and Alex was handed his Congratulatory certificate.

After the recession, we took some photos of Alex and Inna.

Here is Alex's graduation certificate:

After graduation, Alex joined the Graduation Party. It was very crowded, and many kids were quite emotional. Some girls were even crying.
