Bruges, Belgium

Today, we took an early morning train from Brussels to Bruges. Bruges is a small Belgian city crisscrossed by multiple canals and is considered the "Venice" of Belgium.

We took the local bus from the Bruges train station to Bruges downtown / Burg Square.

As it was early morning and not very crowded,  I climbed the Belfort Tower to get a better view of the city while Inna enjoyed a delicious breakfast nearby.

The surrounding city is covered with colorful red roofs. Surprisingly, most of the city's canals are not easily visible from Belfort's rooftop.

After the long walk down the stairs, I returned to Burg Square.

Inna was waiting for me in the restaurant, finishing her delicious breakfast.

I also got a bite to eat and enjoyed some croissants and orange juice.

After breakfast, we explored Burg Square and then headed for other tourist attractions.

There are a few monuments in the square and many restaurants and shops.

We decided to walk to the Basilica of the Holy Blood. We saw some cute gifts in nearby souvenir shops on the way there.

After browsing further, we finally arrived at the Basilica.

Unfortunately for us - it was closed for services - so we decided to return when it re-opened for tourists later. We explored the nearby City Hall instead.

The City Hall is ornately decorated with gold leaf. It shows how wealthy Bruges used to be.

There are numerous paintings and murals depicting scenes from Belgian history.
