Lesson 08: Forehand Tennis Lesson with Ryan Reidy

After returning from Boston (where I did not play tennis for May), I resumed my tennis practice at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club (AVAC).

Playing on the club's ball machine, I noticed that my forehand and backhand techniques have deteriorated, and I need additional help to improve them. I scheduled a video lesson with Ryan Reidy (2minutetennis.com) for June 8, 2022, at 18:00.

I used the following video for Ryan's review:

Forehand Side View

 Forehand Rear View:

Ryan's Forehand Pointers

  1. During the preparation part of the swing, the right arm should be closed (like the arm and the racket are one)
  2. The Left arm finishes high as if hitting the wall and stops there
  3. The Right arm should finish way above the head and behind one's head (see Nadal video)

Ryan's Backhand Pointers

  1. The backhand should be closed more
  2. When the backhand is initiated, the knees should bend
  3. When swinging at the ball, use your legs to generate power against the ground
  4. Finish with the racket hitting one's back
