Review: Orbit 57946 B-hyve Smart WiFi Sprinkler Timer

When I purchased my home in 2011, it came with a pre-installed home sprinkler system. While it operated satisfactorily for the past 18 years, it started to have operational problems in the past few months.

I decided to replace it with something more modern. After some research, I chose the Orbit 57946 B-hyve Smart WiFi Sprinkler Timer, available on Amazon.com for $88.99. Unlike my previous, ancient timer, the Orbit comes with an IOS App (from the Apple App Store), which can configure the timer.

When trying to install the new Orbit timer, my most significant difficulty was removing the previous, ancient Homemaster version. It was attached to my house with two deep screws that were very difficult to remove.

In my home, I had 3 sprinkler zones. Although I could get zones 1 and 3 to work, I could not get zone 2 to work. I am still not sure.

Advantages
  • Innovative watering applications are easy to configure and automatically adjust watering days, taking into account local temperature, rain, soil type, and sunshade.
  • Connecting to WiFi was very easy.
  • Bluetooth also works very well.
  • Easy Rain Delay button is built-in
  • Easy to replace CR-2032 lithium battery backup battery

Disadvantages
  • I would have liked better weather-proofing. The reliability of this device remains to be seen.
