Since watching the Jedi fight in Star Wars, my son has been fascinated with sword fighting. He has taken fencing classes at his previous camps - notably in Kennolyn - and liked it.
When I saw a LivingSocial offer for an Introduction to Fencing Class in The Fencing Center in downtown San Jose for $40 / 4 lessons, I rewarded Alex with some fencing classes.
The first Introduction to Fencing class was held on Saturday, September 6, at their new location, 1290 South 1st Street. When we arrived, a lot of construction materials were still in the warehouse, being used for fencing, and the place looked unprofessional. Things were scattered everywhere.
For the first lesson, the teacher explained the differences among the three significant weapons taught - the foil, the saber, and the epee. Alex already knew these from his camp.
There were about 6 kids in the class, and they were taught how to lunge, retreat, and a few basic moves, but no weapons were used.
