Review: Nobody Loves You at A.C.T.

For Saturday night, Inna purchased tickets to Nobody Loves You - a musical hosted by ACT in San Francisco.

Before the 20:00 performance, we stopped by the Acropolis Greek Restaurant for dinner. After sitting down, we ordered the following items:

  • Appetizers: Tzatziki with Pita, Greek Salad, Parthenon Ceviche
  • Drinks: Sparkling Water, Golden State Apple Cider
  • Boris: Lamb Souvlaki
  • Inna: Moussaka

We were pleasantly surprised by the quick, attentive service, the reasonably priced items, and the food quality. I liked the Tzatziki with fresh Pita and the Lamb Souvlaki. Inna's Moussaka was excellent. The Greek Salad was delicious, too. The Parthenon Ceviche was tasty but slightly smaller than I expected.

After dinner, we thought about stopping at our favorite place for desserts and pastries: One65 (but we did not have enough time).

The main plot behind the show is as follows (courtesy of Perplexity AI):

Nobody Loves You is a satirical musical comedy (book and lyrics by Itamar Moses, music and lyrics by Gaby Alter) about love, reality TV, and authenticity in modern romance. Theatre Bay Area+1

📖 Story & Premise

  • The central character is Jeff, a philosophy grad student who detests reality dating shows — despite his ex-girlfriend loving them. Broadway.com

  • When she auditions for a fictional show called Nobody Loves You and gets on it, Jeff auditions too — to win her back. Theatre Bay Area

  • Jeff is surprisingly cast as a contestant, but she isn’t, and his plan to expose the show’s superficiality goes off the rails. NAMT

  • As he schemes to blow up the game, Jeff unexpectedly falls for Jenny — a prickly producer on the show who wants to make serious films rather than exploit contestants for drama. Theatre Bay Area

  • The story follows the clash between performance and real emotion, including the tension between Jeff’s cynicism, the show’s spectacle, and the possibility of genuine connection. NAMT

💘 Themes

  • The show pokes fun at reality dating TV tropes (think The Bachelor meets Big Brother) and how media shapes our ideas about love and fame. pressarchive.theoldglobe.org

  • It’s a romantic comedy at heart, exploring whether real relationships can exist in a world driven by ratings, cameras, and performative authenticity. Stage and Cinema

  • Along the way, the musical satirizes media voyeurism, celebrity culture, and the search for connection in a hyper-mediated age. Stage and Cinema

🎶 Style & Experience

  • The score blends pop-style songs and musical theater traditions, with witty lyrics and catchy numbers. Stage and Cinema

  • The show is usually staged with a minimalist set that evokes the idea of cameras, screens, and performance, emphasizing how characters are observed by an audience. Stage and Cinema

  • It generally runs about 100 minutes with no intermission and mixes comedy with a sweet, heartfelt romantic arc. TodayTix

🪩 Overall Feel

Nobody Loves You is funny, sharp, and self-aware — a lighthearted but thoughtful take on how we present ourselves in pursuit of love, especially under the gaze of reality TV. It’s both a rom-com musical and a cultural satire that asks whether authentic connection can survive when every kiss is staged for the audience.

Overall, we enjoyed Nobody Loves You, a light-hearted comedy (suitable for a few laughs).
