With an unusual Southerly wind forecast (15-20 kts) from iwindsurf.com, I anticipated unpredictable conditions at Crissy Field. Normally, I only sail in Northwesterly winds.
I loaded up the Tesla Model Y with all my gear and started the drive to San Francisco's Crissy Field around 09:40 (stopping at Keypoint Credit Union on the way there). There was some heavy traffic, and I arrived at Crissy at 11:30.
After finding a spot to park (there was plenty of parking on the grass, and I found a good spot with enough grass to rig the wing), I messaged Alex and started the walk to Cracked & Battered, where I planned to meet Alex at noon.
On the way to Chestnut Street, I ran into the Guardsmen Concert. I saw many street vendors and a band setting up to play. The band was using a very loud power generator, which was a nuisance while playing music.
🎵 The Guardsmen Marina Block Party

- Location: Chestnut Street between Pierce and Divisadero
- Admission: Free
- What it is: An outdoor street festival with live music, food/drinks, arts & crafts, local vendors, games, and family activities.
- Charity: Organized by The Guardsmen, which raises money for programs serving at-risk Bay Area youth.
Arriving at Cracked & Battered, I added our names to the waiting list. Luckily, the other people on the list had left, and we were quickly seated outdoors.
We ordered the following items:
- Alex: Fried Chicken Benedict, coffee
- Boris: Fried Chicken & Waffle, coffee
The Fried Chicken was amazing, and the waffle was also fantastic.
After lunch, we walked back to Crissy Field to see whether the wind had picked up. There were a couple of windsurf foilers on the water, but no wing foilers or kiters.
Since iwindsurf.com reported about 15 knots of wind at Anita Rock, I decided to rig my gear as follows:
- Duotone Slick SLS 5.5 wing
- Armstrong 1250cm front foil
- Naish Hover LE Carbon Ultra 95-liter
- Dakine harness
- GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini cam in a plastic waterproof case
I had a wonderful 90-minute session, blasting along. The wind was gusty, and the water was not too choppy.

I finished around 15:45, de-rigged, and loaded the gear back into the Tesla Model Y. I stopped by Super Duper for a quick dinner.
