Surfing at the Hook

With the New Year 2020 and relatively mild January weather upon us, Alex requested to surf at his usual spot - The Hook in Capitola.

We woke up relatively early and arrived at The Hook around 9:10am. The waves consistently reached 3-5 feet high, with the tide ebbing.

Alex wore his Ripcurl Dawn Patrol 4/3mm wetsuit with booties, gloves, and hood and waxed his Kym Thomson 6'6" shortboard. He decided to surf for about 2.5 hours from 9:30 - 12:00.

While he was surfing, I walked around the area (about 2 miles) and then stopped by my usual Verve Coffee shop for a mocha and a chocolate chunk cookie. I was trying to read "Little Women," but it was a bit noisy, so I ended up watching some of my favorite YouTube channels.

I returned to the Hook at 11:30am to watch Alex surf. Although it is usually challenging to spot Alex, I could identify and take a few photos of him surfing. I saw him surf 3-4 waves, and he did very well, though the waves were closing out quickly.

After Alex finished surfing at noon, he changed into his regular clothes, and we headed to Los Gatos for lunch at SuperDuper Burgers.
