Dirt Biking at Hollister Hills SVRA

Today was my 6th day riding my Red Sticker Honda CRF250R dirt bike at Hollister Hills SVRA.
It's been quite dry the past week, and I noticed very few muddy trails.

To warm up (since the Vintage track was closed), I proceeded to ride the Harmony Gate road. Harmony Gate is a straightforward trail. After that warm-up, I rode the TT Track for a few laps (to improve my cornering skills). After this, I rode the Rancho road loop, which provides excellent scenic views of the surrounding areas.

After coming back for some refreshments, I decided to try the "Middle Field" road, followed by "Back Springs" and then "Back Ridge." I have never done these, so I took it easy on the ascents and descents. There was a lot more mud on these roads. Riding there was a lot of fun, and I will try them again.

Here is a GoPro 4 silver video of the Middle Field road:

I also rode the "Four Corners" trail, which was pretty easy. I had an excellent dirt biking session on this beautiful November day.

I discovered the Lodge Track, an excellent track to train on, with nice jumps.

Trails ridden today were as follows:
  • Harmony Gate (1 time)
  • TT Track (8 loops)
  • Lodge Track
  • Middle Field (2 times)
  • Lower Field
  • Back Ridge
  • Four Corners
  • Old Ranch
  • Rancho Road
At the end of my last ride, my bike started hesitating/stalling, so I dropped it off at Morris Industries for a tune-up with my favorite bike mechanic - Jeff Morris.

Jeff went through the bike with a fine-tooth comb and found a bunch of problems with 15 hours on the bike since the last service:

  • New rear tire (Front tire is still serviceable)
  • Twin Air filter (the Honda brand air filter I installed was the wrong model)
  • Engine oil
  • Coolant needed to be flushed
  • New lower chain roller
  • New rear brake pads and new caliper
  • Change suspension settings to firmer in the rear and softer in the front

I never realized how much maintenance dirt biking takes. It's like 10 times more than street riding.
